We are thrilled to invite you to our Winter Scholastic Open Chess Tournament, hosted by Puddletown Chess. As the snow starts to fall and winter’s embrace takes hold, it’s time to gather for a day of intellectual challenge, strategy, and camaraderie. This event provides a fantastic opportunity for scholastic chess lovers of all grades and skill levels to showcase their talents, learn, and connect with like-minded children. Puddletown Chess is committed to organizing inclusive, fun and well-structured chess competitions, fostering a vibrant chess community. - USCF-rated chess tournament, 2024 OSCF State Championship qualifier.
- Format: 4 round Swiss, G25+5 (each player has 25 minutes with 5-second increment after each move). Three sections (U600, U900, and Open). Section cutoffs may change based on average player strength, and sections may be merged.
- Date: December 2, 2023 (Saturday) 10:00am – 3:30pm. (Check in: 10am-10:20am, Round1: 10:30am, Round 2: 11:30am, R3: 1:00pm, R4: 2:00pm, Award: 3:15pm. The actual time may be slightly different)
- Place: Village Church Gym (330 SW Murray Blvd, Beaverton, OR 97005).
- Prize: Trophies & medals. (1st-3rd Trophies, best female trophy, even and plus medals)
- Entry fee: $30 (female players/low income/Rural area: Free), Zelle/Venmo/Paypal: puddletownchess@gmail.com . Please put the player’s FULL name and USCF ID (if any) in the Zelle/Venmo/Paypal note. We prefer Zelle
- Pre-registration only, no on-site registration.
- Free game analysis with Puddletown co-founders: FM Zoey, Ishaan, Austin & Neev
- Free Pizza for the players.
- US Chess membership is required, which can be purchased on the US Chess website (www.uschess.org) or during registration: US Chess membership rates/information/benefits
- Photo Release: By registering for this event, you hereby give permission for your child to be photographed during the tournaments. We might also reproduce these pictures to be used in educational and/or promotional materials produced by Puddletown Chess. Further, we want to clarify that neither you nor your child will receive any compensation for the use of these photographs. If for any reason you cannot agree with any part of this photo release, please find any photos of you or your player from this event online and share the links with us, we will make every attempt to remove them.
- Health Safety: If you have any symptoms of COVID or any other infection, you will not be allowed to participate and your full tournament registration fees will be refunded. Also, if you are sick (or recovering from illness), please do not come. In that case, please send us a text message (@ 503-419-7097 or 503-888-5973) on the tournament day and we will refund the full tournament registration fees.
- Cancelation & refund policy: As a nonprofit organization, we make every effort to support our community by offering complimentary access to female players, underprivileged families, and players from rural areas. At the same time, we have to manage expenses such as venue rental, food costs, and prize fees. In order to sustain this initiative, we have established the following cancellation and refund policy:
- Cancellations made on the day of the tournament are not eligible for refunds. Any cancellations made before the tournament day will be converted into credit for future participation in Puddletown events.
- We retain the right to deny future entry to any individuals who misuse our complimentary entry policy.
