Welcome to the Puddletown In-person Casual Chess Tournament! We’re excited to invite our community to a special in-person chess event that combines learning, play, and fun — all in one afternoon.   <ul class="wp-block-list"> <li class="">In-person Casual Chess Tournament</li>   <li class="">Date: January 25th 2026 (Sunday)</li>   <li class="">Check-In Time (check-in is mandatory; players who miss the check-in window will not be paired for the first round)</li>   <li class="">Timings: 1:30pm-4:30pm</li> </ul>   Schedule (Actual round & award times may vary slightly)   Venue: Bethany Library (4888 NW Bethany Blvd Suite K-2, Portland, Oregon)   Meeting room access is on the parking lot side of the Annex, next to Subway.   What to expect:   The event will begin with a 30–40 minute interactive webinar designed for beginner to mid-level players, led by one of our founders or a trained coaching lead. The session will focus on practical ideas, patterns, and thinking habits that players can immediately apply to their games. Expect puzzles, examples, and plenty of chances to think along.   After the workshop, we’ll transition into approximately two hours of casual chess play, organized as quad-style mini tournaments. Players will be grouped with others of similar level to keep games fun, competitive, and friendly. This format is great for getting multiple games in without the pressure of a formal tournament.   To wrap things up, we’ll host a raffle with fun chess-related prizes, and there may also be prizes for all participants and selected winners, depending on turnout.   Whether you’re coming to learn, play, or just be part of the community, this event is designed to be relaxed, welcoming, and energizing.   US Chess membership: US Chess membership is required and can be purchased on the US Chess website (www.uschess.org), where you can find membership rates, information, and benefits. If this is your first USCF rated tournament, we can buy it for you free.   Pre-registration only; no on-site registration.   Photo Release: By registering for this event, you hereby give permission for your child to be photographed during the tournaments. We might also reproduce these pictures to be used in educational and/or promotional materials produced by Puddletown Chess. Further, we want to clarify that neither you nor your child will receive any compensation for the use of these photographs. If for any reason you cannot agree with any part of this photo release, please find any photos of you or your player from this event online and share the links with us, we will make every attempt to remove them.   Cancellation & refund policy:   Cancellations made on the day of the tournament are not eligible for refunds.   Please withdraw yourself under Nachess Hub.
