National Chess Day – Golden Autumn Chess Tournament

As the leaves turn golden, and the air becomes crisp, join us for an enchanting Golden Autumn Chess Tournament! Whether you’re a seasoned player or an enthusiastic novice, this tournament promises to be the perfect arena to showcase your talent, learn from fellow chess lovers, and engage in the noble battle of minds. Prepare your best moves and get ready to make this golden autumn truly spectacular on the chessboard!

• Date: October 5th, 2024 (Saturday), 10:00am – 3:30pm PDT (actual times may be slightly different):

  • Check in: 9:45am-10:15am
  • Round 1: 10:30am
  • Round 2: 11:30am
  • Round 3: 1:00pm
  • Round 4: 2:00pm
  • Awards: 3:15pm

• 2025 OSCF State Championship qualifier.
• Place: Village Church Gym (330 SW Murray Blvd, Beaverton, OR 97005).
• Format: 4 round Swiss, G25+5 (each player has 25 minutes with 5-second increment after each move). Four sections (Novice, U600, U900, and Open). Section cutoffs may change based on average player strength, and sections may be merged. Adult players can play in the open section only.
• Prize: Trophies for the top 5 finishers in the other sections. Medals for players with plus or even scores.
• Entry fee: $30 before 10/2. $35 after (female/non-binary/low income/Rural-area players: Free).

  • Please put the player’s FULL name and USCF ID (if any) in the Zelle/Venmo/PayPal note. 

• Free game analysis with Puddletown co-founders: FM Zoey Tang, Ishaan Kodarapu, CM Austin Tang & Neev Kodarapu, and other Puddletown volunteer coaches.
• Lunch: Free Pizza for the players.
• US Chess membership: US Chess membership is required and can be purchased on the US Chess website (www.uschess.org), where you can find membership rates, information, and benefits. Alternatively, we can purchase it for you for $17.
• Pre-registration only; no on-site registration.
• Photo Release: By registering for this event, you hereby give permission for your child to be photographed during the tournaments. We might also reproduce these pictures to be used in educational and/or promotional materials produced by Puddletown Chess. Further, we want to clarify that neither you nor your child will receive any compensation for the use of these photographs. If for any reason you cannot agree with any part of this photo release, please find any photos of you or your player from this event online and share the links with us, we will make every attempt to remove them.
• Health Safety: If you have any symptoms of COVID or any other infection, you will not be allowed to participate and your full tournament registration fees will be refunded. Also, if you are sick (or recovering from illness), please do not come. In that case, please send us a text message (@ 503-419-7097 or 503-888-5973) on the tournament day and we will refund the full tournament registration fees.
• Cancellation & refund policy: As a nonprofit organization, we make every effort to support our community by offering complimentary access to female players, underprivileged families, and players from rural areas. At the same time, we have to manage expenses such as venue rental, food costs, and prize fees. In order to sustain this initiative, we have established the following cancellation and refund policy:

  1. Cancellations made on the day of the tournament are not eligible for refunds. Any cancellations made before the tournament day will be converted into credit for future participation in Puddletown events.
  2. We retain the right to deny future entry to any individuals who misuse our complimentary entry policy.
