2023 summer -Training program

Puddletown is very excited to continue our training programs in Summer 2023 and beyond!

NOTE: If you don’t know which level the player is at, please contact us at puddletownchess@gmail.com.  We have placement tests to determine the player level.

Beginner

Level 2
  • Weekly Zoom
  • Fridays 06:30pm - 08:00pm Pacific Time
  • Recommended for: Players with with very basic chess knowledge & interest
  • Coach: Ethan Zhang

  • Summer Class Dates: 7/7, 7/21, 7/28, 8/4, 8/11, 8/18
  • LEVEL 2 is for players who know the basic rules of chess but have little tournament experience. During the term, students will start with a brief review of chess rules. The goal is for students to have a clear understanding of how to attack weak pieces/pawns and be familiar with common checkmate patterns.
    Goal => reach a USCF rating of 300

Intermediate

Level 3

  • Recommended for: Players with some prior chess knowledge

  • Summer Class Dates: 6/23, 6/30, 7/7, 7/14, 7/28, 8/4
  • LEVEL 3 is for players who have graduated from our Level 2 program. Topics include but are not limited to: tactics, openings, basic middle game strategy, and abstract checkmate patterns. The goal of this program is to develop confidence to play competitive chess tournaments.
    Goal => reach a USCF rating of 700

Advanced

Level 4

  • Recommended for: Experienced players in rated tournaments

  • Summer Class Dates: 6/23, 6/30, 7/7, 7/14, 7/21, 8/4
  • LEVEL 4 is for players who have graduated from our Level 3 program. Topics include but are not limited to: various complex tactics, opening principles, deeper middle game strategy, pawn structures, and endgame techniques. Students will practice their skills in class with a master coach & play in rated tournaments.
    Goal => Reach a USCF rating of 1000

Elite

  • Weekly Zoom
  • Thursday 06:45pm - 07:45pm
    Pacific Time
  • Recommended for: Experienced players with USCF 1000-1600 rating
  • Coach: GM Ankit Rajpara
  • Homework -> Evaluation -> In-class Feedback
  • Summer Class Dates: 6/22,6/29, 7/6, 7/13, 7/20, 7/27, 8/3, 8/10,8/17,8/24
  • The ELITE program is for advanced players who graduated from our Level 4 program or have equivalent play strength (USCF rating above 1000). The students are required to have basic knowledge of how to evaluate a position and know common theoretical endgames. The class will be focused on positional understanding of middle games and practical endgames.
    Goal => Compete at national level & reach USCF rating of 1000+
