Puddletown is very excited to continue our training programs in Spring 2023 and beyond!
NOTE: If you don’t know which level the player is at, please contact us at puddletownchess@gmail.com. We have placement tests to determine the player level.
Beginner
Pawn’s Program- Weekly Zoom
- Friday's 06:30pm - 08:00pm Pacific Time
- Recommended for: Players with no chess experience
- Coach: Ethan Zhang

This program is for players who are new to chess with zero tournament experience. During the term, students will learn the basic rules of chess including but not limited to: how the pieces move, how to set up a chess board, check and checkmate, notation, and en-passant rule.
The goal is for students to have a clear understanding of how to execute basic checkmates and know when a game ends.
Students will be able to play a complete legal game of chess.
Intermediate
Knight's Program- Weekly Zoom
- Friday's 06:30pm - 08:00pm Pacific Time
- Recommended for: Players with some prior chess knowledge

This program is for players who have graduated from the Pawn's program. Topics include but are not limited to: tactics, openings, basic middle game strategy, and abstract checkmate patterns. Students will be able to play a complete tournament game with emphasis on tactics.
The goal of this program is to develop confidence to play competitive chess tournaments and reach a USCF rating of 800.
Advanced
Queen's Program- Weekly Zoom

- Spring Class Dates: 4/7, 4/14, 4/28, 5/5, 5/12, 5/19, 6/2, 6/9
- This program is for players who have graduated from the Knight's program. Intermediate and advanced chess concepts will be covered. Topics include but are not limited to: various complex tactics, opening principles, deeper middle game strategy, pawn structures, and endgame techniques. Students will practice their skills in class with a master coach & play in rated tournaments. The goal of this program is to improve the students' USCF rating.
