Hey chess enthusiasts! 🌟 We are thrilled to invite you to celebrate Puddletown’s second anniversary with an exciting chess tournament. Whether you’re a seasoned player or just starting out, this event is perfect for all players who share a love for the game. Seating is limited to the first 150 registrants. Don’t miss out on this fantastic event – we can’t wait to see you there!

Come and test your skills, learn new strategies, and make new friends in a fun and friendly environment. There will be prizes, refreshments, and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the wonderful world of chess together.

  • 2025 OSCF State Championship qualifier
  • Date: Sep 14th, 2024 (Saturday)

    • Check-In Time (players who arrive late will not be paired for the first round): 

      • Open section: 9:00am-9:10am
      • All other sections: 9:30am – 10:15am

    • Schedule (actual round & award times may vary slightly):

      • Open section (3 rounds): 9:15am, 11:15am, 1:15pm
      • All other sections (4 rounds): 10:30am, 11:30am, 1:00pm, 2:00pm
      • Awards: 3:15pm

  • Venue: Village Church (330 SW Murray Blvd, Beaverton, OR 97005)

    • Open Section: Umpqua Room 
    • All other sections: Gym

  • Format:

    • Seven sections (2 x U400, 2 x U800, 2 x U1100, and Open). Section cutoffs may change.
    • Open section: 3 round Swiss, G/45; d5
    • All other sections: 4 round Swiss, G/25; +5
    • Adult players can play in the open section only

  • Prize:

    • Elite section:

      • Cash prize and plaques for top 5 finishers. (1st place: $120, 2nd: $100, 3rd: $80, 4th: $60, 5th: $40.) Tiebreakers will be used.
      • Medals for players with plus or even scores. Adult players will win cash prizes only (plaques will be given to the next scholastic player down the ranking list).

    • All other sections:

      • Trophies for the top 5 finishers.
      • Medals for players with plus or even scores.

  • Entry fee: $35 before 9/8. $40 after (female/non-binary/low income/rural-area players: Free)

    • Zelle/Venmo/PayPal: puddletownchess@gmail.com
    • Please put the player’s FULL name and USCF ID (if any) in the Zelle/Venmo/PayPal note. 
    • We prefer Zelle

  • Free game analysis with Puddletown co-founders: FM Zoey Tang, Ishaan Kodarapu, CM Austin Tang & Neev Kodarapu, and other Puddletown volunteer coaches.
  • Lunch: Free Pizza for the players.
  • US Chess membership: US Chess membership is required and can be purchased on the US Chess website (www.uschess.org), where you can find membership rates, information, and benefits. Alternatively, we can purchase it for you for $17.
  • Pre-registration only; no on-site registration.
  • Photo Release: By registering for this event, you hereby give permission for your child to be photographed during the tournaments. We might also reproduce these pictures to be used in educational and/or promotional materials produced by Puddletown Chess. Further, we want to clarify that neither you nor your child will receive any compensation for the use of these photographs. If for any reason you cannot agree with any part of this photo release, please find any photos of you or your player from this event online and share the links with us, we will make every attempt to remove them.
  • Health Safety: If you have any symptoms of COVID or any other infection, you will not be allowed to participate, and your full tournament registration fees will be refunded. Also, if you are sick (or recovering from illness), please do not come. In that case, please send us a text message (@503-419-7097 or 503-888-5973) on the tournament day and we will refund the full tournament registration fees.
  • Cancellation & refund policy: As a nonprofit organization, we make every effort to support our community by offering complimentary access to female players, underprivileged families, and players from rural areas. At the same time, we have to manage expenses such as venue rental, food costs, and prize fees. In order to sustain this initiative, we have established the following cancellation and refund policy:

    • Cancellations made on the day of the tournament are not eligible for refunds. Any cancellations made before the tournament day will be converted into credit for future participation in Puddletown events.
    • We retain the right to deny future entry to any individuals who misuse our complimentary entry policy.
