Welcome to Pudddletown’s August Seminar with FIDE master and Women International Master Zoey Tang!
Hanging pawns in the center are by definition connected; for two hanging pawns on the same rank. They normally arise from various 1.d4 openings, like the Tarrasch Defense, the Tartakower Variation of the Queen’s Gambit Declined, the Queen’s Indian Defense, the Meran Variation, etc. It will certainly pay off for a club player to learn the strategic pros and cons of these positions and, subsequently, to either employ this variation with black or to learn better how to tackle it with white in practical tournament games.
